Why do Recruiters get burnt out?

Recruiters suffer burnout because the above is easier said than done when you know what you're doing. When you don't, it all too easily can become overwhelming.

The thing is, none of it is rocket science. Recruitment is not a dark art and nor is it really sales. It's certainly not simply just cold calling. Recruitment done well (and made to look easy) is simply following processes consistently. Process, process, process. Not rocket science, just lots of little things done consistently and as well as possible. Recruiters therefore get burnt out when they are not looked after by responsible employers, or their employers don't make those processes clear, simple and actionable.

"Earning whopping great paycheques in your mid-late 20's (or even in your 50's) can be like crack cocaine."

Recruiters can also burn out when they do not look after themselves. Earning whopping great paycheques in your mid-late 20's (or even in your 50's) can be like crack cocaine. Phenomenal highs can just as easily be followed by grim lows when things aren't going to plan. So, by all means, go to that concert on a Thursday night or have that weekend-long bender with your Uni mates; but have the wisdom to book a recovery day off afterwards in advance. Make sure you've done a holiday handover for a buddy before you take time off so your pipeline doesn't slip. Make sure you're acting upon the instructions and advice given to you; and make time to be organised, set those reminders, keep a decent day plan/to-do list etc. All of these things help prevent recruiter burnout.
