4 pm - All this work creates work and so you need to be constantly prioritising, re-prioritising, keeping in touch with all parties, making, confirming or carrying out appointments and excusing yourself from time to time. Being organised is therefore important, keeping your eyes on the prize so to speak and managing expectations in every interaction. Giving commitment to people (but not too much commitment - it's best to underpromise and over-deliver, so you routinely impress your prospects, rather than disappoint them) and crucially, asking for commitment in return.
The core tasks of the whole job of a Recruitment Consultant are:
Candidate registrations
Vacancy briefs
Resourcing
Contract negotiation and sales proposals
Advertising and CV write-ups
Interview arranging, confirmation and preparation (hopefully not too much rearranging or cancellation)
Interview hosting and feedback
Offering jobs formally and gaining acceptance of job offers
Onboarding, preparing for induction
Responsibility for and input on credit control (getting paid!)
Account management and development
A lot of which is best done on the phone.
5:30 pm - Update your day plan for tomorrow, confirm any scheduled appointments and (as at any time of day) carry out any scheduled calls and particularly chase the more elusive clients (who by now have boxed off their main duties for the day) and those candidates who are a perfect match but who you haven't reached yet, now they're free from their day jobs.
6 pm - Assuming it's all under control, get yourself off home, go out for tea or drinks with your friends, family, colleagues, hit the gym, whatever. Perhaps you did a bit of overtime the week before last and you can clock off at 4 pm, as you've earned time in lieu. Maybe tomorrow is Friday, you earned a bonus day of holiday for your hard work last month and you've got a long weekend!
Or maybe tomorrow is the last Friday of the month and it's payday, you have a £6k pay cheque due to land because you worked hard all the previous business quarter and you're in the money. We broke a record recently at Recruitment Panda paying the new largest monthly paycheque ever to a Recruitment Consultant (Summer 2023) and it was more than £10k (MORE THAN TEN GRAND). BOOM!
Sounds like fun? It can also be very hard work too…take a look at what we mean by that here
